HOW TO MAKE YOUR FAVORITE RECIPES WITH FRESH-MILLED WHOLE GRAIN FLOUR

A lot of people ask us how to bake with fresh-milled flour. Is it different? Do you need to use fresh-milled flour recipes? The answer is really simple! You can stop using rancid, over processed, store bought flour and start using fresh-milled flour in all your favorite recipes now! Fresh-milled flour is a thirstier flour. Add it to your favorite recipes and if it seems dry substitute more of the liquid ingredients until you get the desired texture. Occasionally you might find that your recipe might be too wet, and if that happens just add more fresh-milled flour!

Lastly, remember that fresh-milled ancient grains, like Einkorn, can produce a stickier dough. Accept the stickiness as normal and don’t add extra flour to combat the stickiness! Your recipe will be fine!

There are many amazing Fresh-Milled Flour Groups on Facebook and other social media platforms, where you can find specific fresh-milled flour recipes you can follow, but don’t be afraid to throw out the bleached flour from your grocery store, and start milling your own fresh-milled flour for your tried and true daily recipes!

Again, just follow this simple rule: If dry, add more liquid, if too wet, add more fresh-milled flour and there you have it, the key to getting your family eating healthier with fresh-milled flour! ❤️

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO FRESH MILL YOUR OWN FLOUR FROM WHOLE WHEAT BERRIES?

Today we rely on the store to have our flour and since the early 1900s, our flour has evolved into something man thought would be better and last longer: bleached, stripped, over-processed, rancid flour devoid of minerals and vitamins and stripped of the bran and hull which gives us the fiber and vitamins and minerals we need to process the flour.

A short while after this, the rate of mortality and disease rose substantially and quickly! They decided to add the vitamins and minerals back into their over-processed flour. These often synthetic vitamins and minerals have been linked to health issues in studies. We believe that gluten intolerance was developed in response to our bodies not beng able to process bread or flour that is over processed.

Thankfully, today many of us have come to the realization that fresh-milling our own flour is not only less expensive, but extremely healthy for us. The natural vitamins, minerals and fiber in fresh-milled flour can and has been reported to heal the gut, keep us regular, and reverse serious health issues! There is a reason the Bible says that bread is good for your heart! And many people that frequently use fresh milled flour have no issues with gluten like they did with eating recipes made with store bought flour.

NOTE: (We want to make it clear that Celiac Disease is serious, and even fresh-milled flour can be life-threatening for someone suffering from Celiac Disease. We are speaking of mild gluten intolerance when referencing gluten intolerance above! All wheat berries including ancient grains like Einkorn, Spelt and Khorasan have gluten.)

HOW DO YOU FRESH MILL YOUR OWN FLOUR?

Thousands of years ago, our ancestors used two flat stones to rub together with grain between to make flour. The process was long and tedious. Hundreds of years ago, our ancestors had community grain mills in every town. You could pay them to mill your wheat berries into flour between their two very large and flat, water powered stones at the local mill, or you could buy their fresh-milled whole grain flour they freshly milled that day.

Today, it’s really easy! There is an appliance called a mill. It’s a small miniature version of what you would find at the local mill 100 years ago and it fits on your counter between your coffee maker and your toaster. It’s pretty awesome! And whenever you want fresh milled flour you just turn on your mill and pour in wheat berries. The mill immediately pours out super fresh milled, brand new flour ready to be baked or used for your favorite recipes in seconds. It’s a lot faster than going to the store to get your flour, it’s cheaper by the ounce and it’s full of real nutrition, fiber, vitamins, minerals and protein!!! Sometimes up to 22% protein!
